About

Started in June of 1996, Trees Across Raleigh is a non-profit corporation dedicated to planting trees in public rights-of-way, along public medians and in public parks for the benefit of all Raleigh residents. By planting trees with community citizen volunteers, Trees Across Raleigh seeks to improve the City of Raleigh’s appearance, foster greater community pride and promote economic development throughout the city. In the aftermath of Hurricane Fran, the need for trees for the sake of the city’s appearance and environmental health had never been greater. Demonstrations of proper tree-planting techniques not only show volunteers how to plant on these sites but also how to plant yard trees. Its first planting project included planting trees in Raleigh along Glenwood Avenue near Five Points, specifically planting the median from the Wade Avenue interchange north to the circle. The landscape design plans included Chinese elms, oaks and crepe myrtle trees.

Since the organization was formed in 1996, volunteers have spread out across Raleigh planting trees through Raleigh’s parks. Previous plantings have been done on Glenwood Avenue near Five Points, New Bern Avenue near Wake Med, Millbrook Exchange Park, Fletcher Park, Chavis Park, Marsh Creek Park, Eliza Pool, Walnut Creek Park, Lake Lynn Community Center, Pullen Park, Lake Johnson, Anderson Point Park, Roberts Park Community Center, and Worthdale Park.

If you have an idea for a future planting on public land please let us know. We do a fall and spring event with the planning taking place a year before the event occurs. Call us or talk to one of the Board Members about ideas for future plantings. Trees Across Raleigh greatly needs volunteers and community support to prepare for its community-wide planting days. People can help by adopting a tree, donating money to buy planting equipment or volunteering to help us plant trees. We are always looking for community minded folks to join us on the Board of Directors.
